Attack on Titan is arguably the most popular and loved anime to come out in this generation. The story follows a world which lives in fear of the existence of giants known as Titans which have pushed humanity to the brink of extinction.
The remaining survivors live cowering from them inside a group of walls named Wall Maria, Wall Rose and Wall Sina on Paradis island.
This changes when a huge Titan manages to destroy Wall Maria while killing several in the process.
We are told the story of a young boy named Eren who lives in Shiganshina district and loses his entire family to these Titans.
He then goes from a naive young boy to a strong warrior in an army who is dedicated to wiping the Titans out.
However, with several twists in the story, it is soon revealed that the AOT World which was believed to be destroyed outside Paradis island actually still existed.
With the history that everyone was assuming to be true completely changed, the continent suddenly expanded with several speculations of the attack on titan map.
In this article, we shall be taking a closer look at the Attack on Titan maps and laying out the scale of this world.

What Country Is Attack On Titan Set In?
While it is of no doubt that the Attack on Titan anime is set in a fictional world.
It takes us through the different lives led by several people in each subsection of the wall.
At the same time, it also shows us how uncertain their sense of safety and security is as we see heavy losses not just from the Titans outside but also from internal threats like politics and the female titan.
This heavily parallels and comments on the situation in the real world which leads us to believe that Attack on Titan is based on a real life world map.
From the names in the anime, we can tell that a lot of the details in the plot and geography is based to match Germany.
By comparing it to the world map, fans were also able to point out that Paradis Island is very similar to the land of Madagascar in Africa.
With several locations and the territory clearly mirroring these and Hajime Isayama also speaking on this, we can basically tell that this is where image and idea originated.
How Big Is The World In Attack on Titan?
After the great titan war where humanity was believed to be on its last legs, the World of attack on titan was also assumed to be to very small.
In particular, the area of human territory is estimated around 723,822 km² within Wall Maria and approximately 453,646 km² within Wall Rose.
In this, the population of humanity is just above 1 million while being declining constantly.
However, after Eren decided to cause the Rumbling which killed 80 percent of the population which was about 1.6 billion people on the attack on titan map, this number saw a significant change.
Where Is Shiganshina Located?
At the start of Attack on Titan, we are shown the happy trio of Eren, Armin and Mikasa passing their days in the Shiganshina district.
This was located on the South edge of Wall Maria while being build on an outcrop.
Due to its exterior location, the city was always surrounded by Titans outside the walls but was never under threat for several years due to their height.
This changed with the arrival of the Colossal Titan that towered over them and broke open the high walls leading to the city suffering heavy losses.
The Walls in Paradis Island
The Walls on the Attack on titan map are the three large structures that were built by King Fritz in order to keep the surviving Eldian population safe from outside threats.
Each of these walls hold separate districts and locations where several groups and categories of people live.
1. Wall Maria
This is the outermost wall which is approximately 50 metres tall and was breached in the year 845 which led to a huge loss of life.
It is infamous for having the Titan forests close by which have a huge number of titans that hide amongst the extremely tall trees.
There are four districts in it but only the name of one of them is known.
- Shiganshina District – It is located towards the south of the wall and is the site where we are introduced to our protagonist, Eren Yeager. It was also the first place that got breached by the Colossal Titan.
2. Wall Rose
Wall Rose is the second wall which was broken through by Titans in the year 850.
However, after Eren Yeager later learnt to use his powers, he sealed it back with the help of the military forces.
The districts in this wall are:
- Utopia District – Located on the North side of the Wall.
- Karanes District – Towards the East of the Wall.
- Trost District – It is the District closest to Wall Maria and with its locations in the South, it is a place heavily attacked by Titans. Later, it was also invaded by the Colossal Titan.
- Krolva District – Placed on the Western side of Wall Rose.
Other than these, the wall also houses several villages and Utgard Castle where some of our favorite characters get surrounded by Titans later on in the series.
3. Wall Sina
As the innermost wall, Sina has a very diverse population which ranges from the extremely rich and nobles to the dirt poor who basically have the most minimal of resources.
The king lives in this area while the military police act upon his orders and exercise justice.
The districts that are in this wall are:
- Orvud District – It is on the north side of the Wall.
- Stohess District – Located on the East side of the wall, it was heavily damaged after Annie Leonhart’s identity was revealed and she went on a rampage.
- Ehrmich District – On the Southern part of the Wall.
- Yarckel District – District on the Western side of Wall Sina.
In addition to these, Wall Sina also has the city of Mitras which was the capital of Eldia and is the centre point around which the 3 walls were built.
This houses some very prominent nobles and the Royal family.
As a direct contrast to this is the Underground which is located right below Mitras.
While these were cities that would originally supposed to be part of the districts, they ended up being abandoned and home to the extremely poor and criminals.
Both Levi and Kenny Ackerman were also former inhabitants in the Underground.
What Lies On The Other Side Of The Sea?
At the end of the 3rd season, we watch Eren and his gang point towards the other side of the sea which instantly brings up our curiosity as to what is there.
With the following seasons, we find out that across the sea lies the nation of Marley which had defeated all of Eldia other than Paradis island in their past history.
It is a gigantic empire that lies on the west of Paradis island and is the size of a large continent.
Being in control of several territories to its South, West and a peninsula on its South Eastern side which allows to it have access to several water bodies and resources which helped in Marley becoming a superpower.
The present day Marley, however, was in very bad form as they only had a handful of Titans to defend them from the threat of the Mid East Allied Forces.
While they were barely holding on, the Titan power they possessed was not strong enough to battle against a rapidly advancing world that kept growing in terms of technology.
Marley also has several cities and locations that served a number of purposes.
The ones which have been named in the manga are:
Liberio – This is the main location where a majority of the final season takes place in Marley. It serves as internment zone to hold Eldians who were left behind after the Great Titan War. Liberio also acts as the perfect place to comment on the disparities and internal conflict faced by Marley.
Lakua – It is a military base located towards the western side of Marley.
- Lago – A huge city which was destroyed and faced a huge loss of life due to a Titan attack over 1200 years ago.
- Odiha – It is a city which was in the southern part of the Continent but ended up being destroyed once the Rumbling started.
- Karifa – A naval port which was in the northern part of Marley and was believed to be the gathering point of a global allied fleet meant to combat against Eren.
- Fort Salta – Fort Salta was a supremely important Marleyan fort that was the final place of refuge for surviving members of the military during the Rumbling.
What Is The Mid East Allied Forces?
The mid east allied forces are a group of unnamed nations that were waging war against the nation of Marley.
After they were able to find out that Marley had lost the female titan and Colossal titan, they believed it was the best time to strike and used their anti-titan weaponry in an attempt to wipe Marley from the face of the planet.
Another relevant place to note is Fort Slava which was a base for the mid east allied forces and helped them have an advantageous position on top of a hill in the battle against Titans.
What Is The Other Country In the Attack on titan Map?
While we are aware of the existence of several nations in the attack on titan map as it hopes to replicate a real life world map, we are aware of the name of very few.
To be precise, from the manga, we are only aware of the nation of Hizuru which occupies a part of the Orient other than Eldia and Marley.
Hizuru happened to be the only country to tolerate and even support the Eldian empire since its days of causing destruction using Titans.
We also watch representatives visit the Paradis island after finding out the existence of Mikasa who was a lost descendant of the Shogun clan.
While tension had been created in the middle when Paradis island wanted to trade resources with other nations, Hizuru remained allies with Paradis even through the Rumbling.
